Every single registered domain has a minimum of two Name Server records that show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain name to the servers of a certain website hosting provider. That way, you have got both your site and your emails managed by the exact same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), nevertheless, there is a variety of other records, for instance A and MX. The first one shows which server deals with the site for a given domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter reveals which server deals with the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an illustration, whenever you enter a domain name in your Internet browser, your request is forwarded through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain name uses and from there you could be directed to the servers of a different company provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having different records for the website and the emails means that you can have your site and your e-mails with two different companies if you wish.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Web Hosting

If you have a cloud web hosting account from our company and you want to point either your website or your e-mails to an alternative provider, it'll take you literally simply two mouse clicks to do this. Our Hepsia Control Panel offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you're going to be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you choose to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the standard 2, it will not take more than a few clicks either to add them. Also you can set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the bigger the priority a certain MX record will have. The propagation of each record that you change or set up is not going to take more than several hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that shows how long a record will remain active after it's changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, included with our semi-dedicated service, will permit you to view the A and MX records for each of the domains or subdomains in your account and if required, to update any of them or create new ones. Handling these records is incredibly easy because all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so modifying a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes a few more clicks and if you experience any problems, you can check out our instructional videos on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by individuals with no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to give you total control over all records and to enable you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are pointing your emails to a different company and they ask you to create more than two different MX records, you can select the priority of each one.
