An Operating System is the software which interacts with the hardware of a computer and works as the intermediary between applications and the hardware, including peripherals such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run an app, it transmits requests to the OS through an API (Application Program Interface) and the contact is done via a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Identical to a personal computer, hosting servers also use an Operating System which functions as a host for all of the software installed on them, including script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, and so on. A virtual machine can be created on a physical one, so you could install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment compared to the physical server host Operating System.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

Our VPS server plans come with three Linux releases which you can choose from for the Operating System of your new hosting server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. In addition to being totally free, the OSs are really stable and protected and the main reason to offer you the three of them is to ensure that you can run every app that you'd like, as different pieces of software could have different requirements in terms of the environment they work on. Each of the three OSs is supported by a vast community of web developers who have made a large number of software packages which you can install and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System that you select, you will also be able to select between 3 different Control Panels to take care of your web hosting content. Of course, should you decide that you need another OS, we can always re-install the server with it. As an additional upgrade, we also offer you weekly updates of the OS for optimum stability and security.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

In case you decide to obtain one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the registration page since we want to give you a larger choice regarding the system environment on your server as different apps may have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their large support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and benefit from a stable and safe hosting service. Based on your decision, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always replace the Operating System in case the one you've selected at first does not meet the requirements of the software which you'd like to run. We can also upgrade the OS on a regular basis in order to keep it as risk-free as possible with our Managed Services upgrade package.
